Società Agricola "P. Cuppari" crypt
The crypt of the Agricultural Society "P. Cuppari" is located in the cemetery of Piana degli Albanesi, of which it is the only underground environment.
This crypt represents a historical heritage of great value since the members of the Agricultural Society who were the notables of this community, many of whom were also great benefactors, are buried there.
The historical interest is also due to the fact that in the crypt many inscriptions in Arbereshe and photos of women in Traditional Costume are still identifiable, without excluding the fact that some of these women may have been buried in their own Costume.
Today the crypt is in very precarious conditions despite the maintenance that the Agricultural Society has provided in the past. The floor has risen, creating considerable damage to the structures which as a consequence have led to the detachment of many tombstones.
On the initiative of Salvatore Vasotti, founder and director of Visitpiana.com, a three-dimensional mapping project of the crypt was presented to the Agricultural Society that will allow to document the current state by creating a digital twin and an digital archive in view of a broader consolidation and recovery project.
This digital archive will allow all the descendants of these people buried there, most of whom are now in the United States, to find and maintain their roots in their country of origin.
Today "visitpiana.com" and the "agricultural society "P. Cuppari" are working together to save the memory.
