These cards have been designed and studied to allow children to easily learn the Arbëreshë language, they are also very useful for adults who wish to approach learning this language.
These are two decks of plastic cards. One of the two decks is made up of 50 cards with red backs on which 50 commonly used words are printed. The other deck is made up of 50 cards with light blue backs on which drawings suitable for children and which correspond to the words are printed.
The game is very simple and addictive. All the cards are shuffled and placed on a table exposing the red or light blue. You start by revealing a red card and then a light blue one in search of the match. For example, if you reveal a card with the word cat you have to look for the corresponding figure. If it is not found, the hand is obviously passed to another player who will repeat the attempt.
This game is particularly interesting because in addition to helping in learning the language and correct pronunciation, facilitated by the help of someone who knows the pronunciation of the words, it stimulates memory, including visual memory.
The cards were designed by the linguist Martin di Maggio who has origins from Santa Cristina Gela (PA) but grew up in the United Kingdom and continued to speak Arbëresh.
